The life of a novice comedian is not an easy one. Failure and frustration seems to be ever-present companions for burgeoning jokesters, as most of their quips and punchlines wind up bombing.
As the old saying goes, however, the best way to learn is by doing, which means honing your comedy skills in front of a live audience as much as possible.
A perfect way to do just that is by becoming a cast member of First Friday Night Live, the sketch comedy event that goes down at The Firehouse monthly during the fall. The organizers of FFNL are looking for some new comedic talent for their upcoming season, as well as performance artists, yukksters, and improvisation specialists.
They’ll be holding auditions during the next two Saturdays at The Firehouse, and are also seeking “suspicious characters, class clowns, and general mischief-makers” to join their ranks.

FFNL’s organizers are also seeking folks to help out with the production side of things, including technicians, set designers, costumers, make-up artists, and musicians.
Auditions will be around 15 minutes long and take place on the next two Saturday afternoons from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. Some preparation is involved, and anyone interested in auditioning can e-mail organizer Kristy Theilen at sunflowerdragonslayer@gmail.com.
