Pencil in some time to “Get the Lead Out!,” the West Valley Art Museum’s exhibition of pencil-only artwork. The compositions span a century and are on view through Thursday, August 15.
Two artists from the museum’s permanent collection are featured: George Resler a self-taught etcher who gained notice in the early 1900s for his detailed drawings; and Henry Varnum Poor, a multimedia muralist known for intricate sketch work and loose style.
Meanwhile, locals Tracy Farrand and Elliott Everson take colored pencil art from the fridge to the museum. Farrand specializes in layers on white paper, creating vibrant scenes emulating paint. Everson blends reality with art, with drawings of lizards on stone and Sonoran landscapes.
On Thursdays, including August 1, see the collection from noon to 6 p.m. at the Peoria City Hall Art Gallery, 8401 West Monroe Street. Admission is free. Call 623-972-0635 or visit www.wvam.org.
