Lydia Hernandez’s visit to a Texas education association conference brought controversy and a two-year ban from the group’s events.
“The idea that you drop a bill and never want it to be heard is not lawmaking,” Rep. John Allen said. “It’s politics.”
The bill’s sponsor said she has a problem “when things like socialism and other ideologies are impressed upon the children outside of the curriculum.”
“My floor statement was a friendly counterpoint to Representative Salman’s hijacking of the prayer,” Representative John Kavanagh said.
“I’m not singling out religion and trying to attack religion,” Arizona State Senator Juan Mendez said in response.
“Be foolish not to reach out to folks who had been successful, who had applied in the past, to see how they had answered some of the questions.”
Grant Woods said that if he ran for the Senate seat, he could expect to face “a big-time, expensive, competitive primary.”
The incident was consistent with others, “in which parents of children whose skin color or ethnicity differs from theirs fell under suspicion.”
Representative Nancy Barto, the Republican chair of the committee, called the issue “long overdue.”
“This is voter suppression,” said Senator Lisa Otondo, a Democratic lawmaker from Yuma.
Meanwhile, the police union says all officers wearing cameras should get a pay bump.
A group of Arizona voters on Monday organized a political action committee that has pledged to file a recall petition against State Rep. David Stringer if his colleagues don’t vote to expel him.
Stringer was instructed to “seek admission” at Dr. Berlin’s program.
The tough questions arrived during the audience Q&A portion of the event: “Please explain to me why you feel you can’t run as a Democrat.”
“You’re not going to be able to hold landlords accountable to anything specific anymore.”
Spokesman Rick DeBruhl confirmed the news in a carefully worded statement, saying the investigation was “with regards to his application to practice law in Arizona.”
There’s always take two.
“I don’t think that what’s been put in front of us is insurmountable,” said Thomas Saenz, the president and general counsel for MALDEF.
“Stringer has demonstrated a pattern of behavior that is “dishonorable and unbecoming of a member…” Bolding’s complaint says.

Republicans say the allegations against Stringer should face an Ethics Committee.
