We’re pretty excited about Hooves’ homecoming gig in March, and listening to “Animal Mother,” our exclusive sneak peek at the band’s upcoming Fetch, Little Doggie LP, justifies the commotion. A live staple at the band’s shows for some time, the recorded version offers a certain clarity that isn’t always present at the band’s raucous live shows.
Starting off with a piano and chant intro, the song moves into a standard Hooves chorus before setting the controls for outer space, launching into a space rock chorus and riffy rock-out that could sound at home on an early Pink Floyd record. The rest of Fetch, Little Doggie lives up to the moment, but “Animal Mother” is the “farthest out” Hooves has gone on tape (the new record will be available at the show).
Listen to “Animal Mother” after the break.
