Two members of the famous Russian activist band Pussy Riot will appear in Phoenix in February.
Maria Alyokhina and Ksenia Zhivago will appear at Beth Hebrew Synagogue (333 E. Portland St.) on Saturday, February 16.
Alyokhina received worldwide attention in February 2012, when she and Nadezhda Tolokonnikova were arrested for their role in a 2012 music video shoot inside a Russian Orthodox cathedral in Moscow. Vladimir Putin’s government charged her and Tolokonnikova with hooliganism. The trial that followed received harsh condemnation from most of the industrialized world, but to no avail — three members of Pussy Riot ended up going to jail. Alyokhina was released in December 2013.
The appearance is being called “Art, Sex & Disobedience: A Conversation with Pussy Riot.”
