For the first time in about seven weeks, doctors treating Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords held a news conference to update the public on the congresswoman’s condition after she was shot through the brain during the January 8 shooting rampage in Tucson.
Things are looking good for Giffords.
According to her doctors, Giffords is making “leaps and bounds” in her recovery, and they plan to re-attach her skull at some point in May.
Doctors at the TIRR Memorial Hermann in Houston, Texas, where Giffords was taken for rehab after several weeks in a Tucson hospital, say the congresswoman is walking with assistance, and her memory and speech are improving.

Giffords can now reportedly complete sentences such as “I’m tired and want to go to bed.”
While Giffords’ memory improves, she still has no recollection of the shooting, doctors say.
Doctors say they’re hopeful Giffords will be able to attend her husband, astronaut Mark Kelly’s, shuttle launch.
Kelly is pegged to serve as the mission commander aboard the space shuttle Endeavor, scheduled for launch on April 19.
