Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords was in Washington D.C. today to “support a bipartisan bill to avoid economic crisis,” her office “tweeted” moments ago.

Giffords was met with a standing ovation when she walked into the House chamber.
Congresswoman Nanci Pelosi addressed the House, praising Giffords as being the “personification of courage.”

“I have closely followed the debate over our debt ceiling and have been deeply disappointed at what’s going on in Washington,” Giffords says in a press release.
“After weeks of failed debate in Washington, I was pleased to see a solution to this crisis emerge,” she says in the release. “I strongly believe that crossing the aisle for the good of the American people is more important than party politics.”
Today’s vote is Giffords’ first Congressional vote since getting shot through the brain during the January 8, Tucson shooting rampage.
“I had to be here for this vote,” Giffords continues in the press release. “I could not take the chance that my absence could crash our economy.”
