Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords’ office announced today that she plans to spend Father’s Day in Tucson, which will be her first trip back to Arizona since she went to Texas for rehab after getting shot in the face during the January 8 Tucson shooting.
“We’ve been dreaming of this trip for some time,” Giffords’ husband Mark Kelly says in a statement. “Gabby misses Tucson very much and her doctors have said that returning to her hometown could play an important role in her recovery.”
He says the trip “is sure to be very emotional.”
Giffords will make no public appearances, nor will she grant any interviews while she’s in town.

Giffords left the Houston hospital where she’s been recovering for the last several months on Wednesday.
She’s been living in Kelly’s, League City, Texas, home, about 26 miles from Houston.
Giffords is continuing her recovery with outpatient therapy at TIRR Memorial Hermann, the facility at which she’d been recovering since moved from Tucson in January.
