A serial drunk driver prosecutors refer to as “one of the greatest threats to public safety in Maricopa County,” has been sentenced to 20 years in prison after pleading guilty to his two latest counts of driving under the influence, which is a shitload of time for someone who never actually hurt anyone.
In total, 58-year-old Jack Mizer’s racked up nine DUIs since the late 1980s, Jerry Cobb, spokesman for the Maricopa County Attorneys Office tells New Times. In none of those cases, Cobb says, was anyone injured as a result of Mizer driving drunk.
However, Mizer doesn’t just drive drunk, he drives really drunk — and often.
The first of Mizer’s most recent DUI arrests happened on February 6, of last year. His blood alcohol content was a “stunning” .293.

Mizer was arrested and released on $25,000 bond. He was ordered to not drink and drive — which, of course, didn’t happen.
About two weeks after being arrested for that DUI, Mizer was stopped again — this time blowing an equally “stunning” .278.
Mizer’s had five other felony DUI convictions since 1992, one of which involved an infant.
In that incident, when Mizer was stopped by police, he was found holding a drink in one hand and had an infant standing on his lap steering the vehicle.
“This repeat offender is a menace to our community and will spend most if not all of the rest of his life in prison where he belongs,” Maricopa County Attorney Bill Montgomery says. “We will prosecute just as aggressively anyone who disregards the safety of our citizens by making the wrong decision to drink and drive.”
