Calling itself “a delizioso escape from boring fast food,” a new fast-casual Italian restaurant is gearing up to open at 15425 North Scottsdale Road (in Zocalla Plaza, just north of Scottsdale Quarter and across from Kierland) in North Scottsdale.
The Republic reports that Pellini Italian Eatery (pellini is Italian for “little skin” and refers to the restaurant’s flatbread), a build-your-own concept featuring traditional Italian food with a healthy slant, comes courtesy of advertising executive, chef, and restaurateur Mark Motta, who co-owns the restaurant (scheduled to open in mid-October) with his nephew, Matt.
So what can diners expect?
The Republic goes on to say that Motta is working with consulting chefs to adapt his recipes (which will utilize locally sourced meats and produce, signature sauces, and pasta made from Arizona hard durum wheat) for the area’s fast-casual segment and that the menu is still a work in progress, but will feature build-your-own flatbreads, pasta bowls, and chopped salads, along with Motta’s specialty: the piata, an Italian handheld food resembling a burrito.
