To learn more about cookies, visit http://www.allaboutcookies.org.
  • Clear GIFs, pixel tags, and other technologies. Clear GIFs are tiny graphics with a unique identifier, similar in function to cookies. In contrast to cookies, which are stored on your computer’s hard drive, clear GIFs are embedded invisibly on web and app pages. We may use clear GIFs (a.k.a. web beacons, web bugs, or pixel tags) to among other things, track the activities of site visitors, help us manage content, and compile statistics about Services usage. A clear GIF can collect information such as: the IP address of the computer that downloaded the page on which the tag appears; the URL of the page on which the pixel tag appears; the time the page containing the pixel tag was viewed; the browser type and language; the device type; geographic location; and, the identification number of any cookie on the computer previously placed by that server. • Analytics. We may use Google Analytics and Google Analytics Demographics and Interest Reporting to collect information regarding visitor behavior and visitor demographics on some of our Sites, and to develop website content. We may also share such information with third party advertising partners. These advertising partners may use this information (and similar information collected from other websites) for purposes of delivering targeted advertisements to you when you visit non-Voice Media Group related websites within their networks. This practice is commonly referred to as “interest-based advertising” or “online behavioral advertising.” If you do not want interest-based advertising, you may be able to opt-out by visiting US-based www.networkadvertising.org/managing/opt_out.asp and www.aboutads.info/choices/.

There is no consensus as to what DNT means in this context, and since some browsers apply DNT signals by default it does not necessarily reflect our visitors’ choice as to whether they wish to receive advertisements tailored to their interests. As a result, like many websites, we do not alter our practices when the Services receive a DNT signal from a visitor’s browser. For information about “do-not-track”, visit http://www.allaboutdnt.org

Our Cookies Policy explains what cookies are, how we use cookies, how third-parties we partner with use cookies on the Service, your choices regarding cookies and further information about cookies.

What are cookies

Cookies are small pieces of text sent to your web browser by a website you visit. A cookie file is stored in your web browser and allows the Service or a third-party to recognize you and make your next visit easier and the Service more useful to you.

The period during which a cookie is stored on the device you are browsing with depends on whether it is a “persistent” or a “session” cookie. Session cookies are only stored on a device until the web browser is closed. Permanent cookies remain on the device after you have finished browsing until they expire or are deleted.

How Voice Media Group uses cookies

When you use and access the Service, we place a number of cookies files in your web browser.

We use cookies for the following purposes:

  • To enable certain functions of the Service;
  • To provide data analytics on your use of the Service;
  • To store your preferences;
  • To enable advertisements delivery, including behavioral advertising.

We use both session and persistent cookies on the Service and we use different types of cookies to run the Service:

Essential cookies. These are cookies that are required for the operation of our Services. They include, for example, cookies that enable you to log into secure areas of our Service.

Functionality cookies. We use these cookies to recognise you when you return to our Service. This enables us to personalise our content for you, greet you by name and remember your preferences (for example, your choice of language or region).

Analytics cookies. We use analytics cookies to track information about how the Service is used so that we can make improvements (for example, to recognize and count the number of visitors and to see how visitors move around our website when they are using it). We also use analytics cookies to test new advertisements, pages, features or new functionality on the Service to see how our users react to them.

Advertising cookies. We use these cookies to offer you personalized and more relevant advertisements, to determine how many times a certain advertisement has already been shown, to calculate the effectiveness of a certain advertising campaign, to keep track of data from a previous visit and to share the data collected with the third parties involved, such as the advertisers.

Third-party cookies

In addition to the cookies we deliver to your device through the Service, certain third parties may deliver cookies to you for a variety of reasons.

We use Google Analytics, a web analytics tool that helps us understand how visitors engage with our Website. To learn more about Google Analytics, click here. We also use Google’s AdSense and DoubleClick services. You can use Google’s Ads Settings to manage the Google ads you see and opt out of Ads Personalization. If you do not want information about your visit to the Service sent to Google Analytics, you may download an Opt-out Browser Add-on by clicking here. Please note that the Add-on does not prevent information from being sent to Voice Media Group.

Other third parties may deliver cookies to your computer or mobile device for the purpose of tracking your online behaviors across non-affiliated websites and delivering targeted advertisements either on the Service or on other websites. As explained in our Privacy Policy, in addition to the various Google services listed above, we use the behavioral remarketing services below, which deliver cookies to your device when you use the Service:

Further, if we know the identity of the consumer from the opt-out preference signal, we will also treat the opt-out preference signal as a valid request to opt out of sale and sharing for such consumer. Consumers may use opt-out preference signals by downloading or otherwise activating them for use on supported browsers and setting them to send opt-out preference signals to websites they visit. For more information on the GPC and how to use a browser or browser extension incorporating the GPC signal, see https://globalprivacycontrol.org/. However, our Website does not respond to “Do Not Track” signals sent by browsers, which are different from the opt-out preference signals described above.

AI Policy

How Voice Media Group newsrooms may use artificial intelligence in our journalism

Although artificial intelligence has the potential to improve newsgathering, it also has the potential to harm journalists’ credibility and our relationship with our audience. As a company, Voice Media Group is approaching AI by embracing its use in ways that make sense for us through testing, human verification, and ongoing adaptation.

Our newsrooms will test and utilize approved AI tools to assist for uses such as copyediting, transcribing, translation, research, story ideation, SEO, and when we ask AI questions and employ those responses within a story. Our journalists will not use artificial intelligence to write stories or generate artwork.

As we proceed, the following four core values will guide our work.

  • Transparency: We will be transparent about usage. When we publish any content that uses artificial intelligence in one of previously mentioned approved ways, we will tell our audience through disclosures as editors feel they are needed. This may be a short tagline in a story, a caption or credit, or, for something more substantial, an editor’s note. When appropriate, we will include the prompts that are fed into the model to generate the material.
  • Accuracy and human verification: All information generated by artificial intelligence will have human verification.
  • Audience service: Our work in artificial intelligence will be guided by what will be useful to our readers.
  • Exploration: With the three previous principles as our foundation, Voice Media Group journalists will embrace exploration and experimentation.

The responsible usage of artificial intelligence is essential for maintaining trust, integrity, and sustainability in Voice Media Group’s operations. For questions or feedback about Voice Media Group’s artificial intelligence policy, please email Editorial Director Chelsey Dequaine-Jerabek at chelsey.dequaine@voicemediagroup.com.
