Kathy Cano-Murillo (aka Crafty Chica) is no stranger to indie arts, or the self-marketing struggle of indie artists.

The Phoenix-based craft fiend has a product line at Michael’s, is the national spokesperson for I Love to Create and can be found painting, hot gluing, and glittering away at almost any trade show and craft fair across the country.

She’s written crating how-tos and stories about fictional creatives, and has ultimately made a name for herself (quite literally) in the national indie arts community.

And now, she’s hoping to help others do the same.

The Crafty Chica Online Workshop will be held online throughout the year with rotating topics; Murillo says the first will be a four-week class on publicity.

“This is for people like me who can’t afford to hire a PR person, but who have the chops to DIY it,” she writes.

Enrollment ($99) includes a three-month membership to the online Crafty Chica Classroom with private classes, live chats, video tutorials, and PDF pattern downloads. Students can work at their own pace, and check in on a weekly basis to participate in optional homework, branding exercises, and brainstorming sessions.

The publicity workshop starts this week. Stay tuned to the Crafty Chica website for registration details and information on upcoming classes.
