Ask any of the 10 women showing artwork at Vision Gallery this month which famous artist they’d like to paint their reality and their answer will be simple and unanimous: Frida Kahlo.
Kathy Cano Murillo, Emily Costello, Anita Mabante Leach, Carmen Guerrero, Michele Delgado, Ana Lisa Rios, Gloria Martinez, Monique Sanderson-Mata, Veronica Verdugo-Lomeli and Diana Calderon are the Phoenix Fridas, a group of local artists who celebrate and are inspired by Frida Kahlo in countless exhibitions they create and workshops they lead.
This Friday, the Fridas will be at Vision Gallery, 10 East Chicago Street in Chandler, for their annual exhibition and celebration of Frida’s birthday.
All 10 artists will talk about their art and their Frida inspirations in a salon-style panel and judge a “Frida look-alike” contest during the opening from 6 to 8 p.m..

We’re aiming to raise $30,000 by December 31, so we can continue covering what matters most to you. If New Times matters to you, please take action and contribute today, so when news happens, our reporters can be there.
Throughout the duration of the show, which is open until August 3, the Fridas will host cooking classes with historical Mexican recipes (June 16), workshops for younger creatives (June 23 and 30), and a birthday party for the artist (July 7).
The exhibition is free and open to the public and the workshops are available with reservations. For more information, visit the Vision Gallery website or the Phoenix Frida website.
