After getting rid of their decent, but often-injured, number-one running back, the Arizona Cardinals have signed another team’s decent, but often-injured, number-one running back.
Shortly after cutting Beanie Wells, the Cardinals have signed former Pittsburgh Steelers running back Rashard Mendenhall to a one-year deal.

Mendenhall played in a grand total of six games last year, after tearing his ACL at the end of the previous season, then injuring his Achilles tendon upon his return, then getting benched, after fumbling on half of his four rushing attempts in one game.

After being told he wouldn’t play in the next game, Mendenhall just didn’t show up to the game, which earned him a suspension.
Other than that, Mendenhall’s stats look decent. In his five-season career, he rushed for 1,000 yards twice, and has a career rushing average of 4.1 yards per carry.
In contrast, Wells played in eight games for the Cardinals last year due to turf toe, and has just one thousand-yard rushing season, and a career rushing average of 4.0 yards per carry. Wells played in all 16 games just once in his four-year career, and that was in 2009, his rookie year.
Looks like Mendenhall’s an upgrade! (Or something like that!)
Really, though, anything’s an upgrade in the rushing game, since the Cardinals were last in the league in rushing last season.
