Democratic Congressman Raul Grijalva was among several people arrested in a civil-disobedience demonstration in Washington, D.C. yesterday.

Grijalva later posted on Facebook that he “was proud to be at the immigration reform rally in Washington yesterday and to stand with my colleagues in an act of civil disobedience to keep the focus on the need to get this done now.”

Other Democratic members of Congress were also arrested, as you can see in the video below:

Another person arrested at the pro-immigration rally was a local undocumented woman, Gina Sanchez, who volunteers with the local organization Promise Arizona.

In a statement from Promise Arizona, Sanchez says:

“I’m doing this to remind Congress there are millions of other people like me whose families suffer every day because of our immigration system. I have a son who was born here, but because I must work here to support [two other children] and I cannot cross legally back and forth into the United States, my family cannot be together. As much as I have suffered, I know my children have suffered more.”

Specifically, the event, Camino Americano: March for Dignity and Respect, was a call for Republican leadership in the House to help pass comprehensive immigration reform that includes a path to citizenship.
