Chilling radio traffic by police and fire fighters released on the Web reveals the chaos found by first responders at the scene of the mass shooting at a Colorado theater.
At least 12 people have died and about 50 wounded after James Holmes, a 24-year-old former medical-school student, attacked theater-goers at last night’s midnight screening of “The Dark Knight Rises” in Aurora.
“We gotta have some damn gas masks for Theater 9!” one officer yells minutes after police began arriving at the scene. “We can’t get in!”

Holmes had reportedly thrown smoke canisters into theater before opening fire on patrons.
“I got people running out of the theater and they’re shot,” yells a female officer, her voice trembling.
At about 14 minutes and 30 seconds into the first recording, police ask someone to turn off the movie, meaning it must have kept playing automatically well throughout the incident.
