You know it’s October when we can start to redesign, re-open and dedicate public outdoor parks again (whew). Tomorrow night, the City of Phoenix and the Phoenix Office of Cultural Affairs will dedicate a new-and-improved Harmon Park, at Fourth Avenue and Yavapai Street in Phoenix.
The park is part of the public art project that was designed to connect Harmon Library with its surrounding community. Artist Stacy Levy developed the concept for the park, along with Richard + Bauer Architects and landscape architect David Case.
Included in Levy’s design are new, lit walkways (they’re embedded with glass by Desert Jewel), garden fences and a large amphitheater that the library will use as an outdoor classroom.

The dedication celebration starts at 6 p.m. on Oct. 14. In attendance will be the Lowell Elementary School students’ Melodies and Lyrics Choir, the Lowell’s World Music Drumming group and local students reading poetry.
(We’re also told there will be refreshments and ice cream … oh yes.)
