I got this job because I met my editor, Amy Silverman, and she pressured me to write an art review.

I tried to squirm out of it and never really gave her a straight answer. Then, one day, she just walked up to me and said, “Okay, ready for your first assignment?”

I’d like to tell you that I was some ballsy go-getter who had a pen, a notebook and a just dream to guide her. Sure, I’ve always written in my diary like some self-indulgent teenager, but I never really thought that would take me anywhere.

Now look at me…I have a self-indulgent blog!

Anyway, my point is, if you like to write, then go for it. Trust me, you never know where it can lead. And I just heard about the perfect workshop where you can get your feet wet.

Tania Katan, author of “My One Night Stand with Cancer” and winner of 2006 Judy Grahn Award in Nonfiction and the Stonewall Book Award, is leading a creative writing workshop called “From Ordinary to Extraodinary” in which she will teach aspiring artists how to take their seemingly mundane day-to-day moments and turn them into great stories.

Having written a successful memoir (that turned into a hit one-woman show) about her life filled with stories about lovers, daily mishaps and, yes, cancer, Katan is the person to show you the way to great writing. No experience is necessary and there will be opportunity for you to read your writing aloud (you brave soul).

There are only a few spots so don’t be a wimp like me and try to squirm out of it…sign up now.
