Man, I am bummed.

The West Valley Art Museum’s “temporary closure” has morphed into the sale of the museum’s building. They will have a benefit sale this weekend.

In August 2009, the Museum shut its doors to restructure funds. The goal was to open again in the future and, at the time, they needed to raise $150,000 to survive.

The sale of the building settled critical debts and, thankfully, allowed the Museum to hold on to its collection. Right now, the Board of Trustees and George Palovich (the Museum’s former curator) are working to move the artworks into storage. At this point, a location has not been selected.

“Yes, the Museum is closed,” says Palovich. “No, it is not dead. It will function as a lending institution after the move is made. Stay tuned.”

In the meantime, the Museum is holding a Benefit Sale this weekend to clear out office supplies, furniture, artifacts from the Museum Store, books, tools and other supplies.

Museum members can hit the sale on Friday, February 12 starting at 4 p.m.; the sale is open to the public on Saturday, February 13 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the former Museum building, 17420 North Avenue of the Arts (114th Avenue and West Bell Road). Visit www.wvam.org.
