Elvis Presley is the king rock n’ roll, but he’s also the man who started the country on a hip-shaking, pelvis-gyrating kick that doesn’t seem to have lost any steam since he first went on national television with his controversial moves in 1956.

Which is why it makes sense to celebrate Presley’s birthday (January 8, 1935) with some hip-shaking and sexy dancing of a different kind. Elvesque! Burlesque 2014 will bring performers from all over the state to the Monarch Theatre in downtown Phoenix Saturday, January 11, for a celebration of the King with dance, music, and — of course — an Elvis look-alike contest.

Unlike a typical burlesque revue, Elvesque! Burlesque will be full stage show that brings together elements of burlesque, Elvis, and cabaret. The performers will bring a combined 50 years of experience to the stage and come from as far as Washington, D.C. to participate in the show.
