In today’s example of why we can’t have nice things: the Shepard Fairey paste on Mill Avenue that we blogged about this week’s been tagged, and we’re not talking a few scribbles.
We’re actually not including a full photo of the damage — the writer really doesn’t deserve the recognition.
Given: It’s not much of a surprise that the (admittedly ephemeral) work by a big-name street artist would get sprayed by another or even buffed out by the City. But it’s yet another example of just how unstable the relationships are between artists who display their work in public spaces and call their work, whether placed on top of another’s or not, art.
Fairey’s work will be shown at the upcoming Sticker Phiends 4 show on April 8 in Tempe, which is why many (including Sticker Phiends’ MADONE) claim his work showed up in spots along Mill Avenue and University Drive.
