A 17-year-old national boxing champion who was training for the 2016 Olympics has died.
Phoenix police say Alexis Urbina-Ochoa’s death is currently being treated as a homicide, although the autopsy results still aren’t in.
Police Sergeant Trent Crump says Urbina, who went to South Mountain High School, stayed home from school on Tuesday, and was found unconscious that day.
Urbina died this afternoon.

Police say Urbina had “visible trauma,” but there were no obvious signs that anyone broke into his family’s home, near Fourth Street and Broadway Road.
However, Crump says investigators now believe items are missing from the home, so robbery is being considered.
Urbina was part of the USA youth national boxing team, and won the national title in the youth 141-pound division earlier this year, when he was 16.
