The Arizona Cardinals announced today that the team has signed kicker Jay Feeley, even though negotiations with the Cards current kicker, Neil Rackers, are still sort of going on.

Feeley played last season with the New York Jets, where he made 30 of 36 field goals and didn’t miss an extra point. Much like Rackers, though, Feeley ran into some trouble in the playoffs, missing two critical field goals in the AFC championship game against the Indianapolis Colts.

The deal is reported to be for two years, but the financial details have not yet been made available.

Rackers, who missed a game-winning field goal against the Green Bay Packers in the playoffs last year, is a free agent. From the sounds of things, the Cardinals would have liked to keep Rackers but couldn’t agree on a deal.

“Neil was the only guy we were interested in going into free agency,” Cardinals coach Ken Whisenhunt tells the says. “When, after a couple weeks, we couldn’t do anything (contractually), we were forced to protect ourselves.”
