We knew it was bound to happen, that the Arizona Wildcats weren’t going to run the table in the Pac-10 Conference. But last night’s 65-58 loss in Los Angeles to USC still came as something of a disappointment.
The Trojans did a great job of bottling up Wildcats star Derrick Williams (who originally was going to attend USC), holding him to a season-low eight points before pulling away in the last few minutes.
That makes tomorrow afternoon’s contest between UA and UCLA the proverbial Big Game.

UA clinches a tie for the league crown with a win, while UCLA ties for first going into the two games of the regular season if they send the Cats back to the desert with a lost weekend.
The Bruins put themselves in this position with a relatively easy win 71-53 over the ASU Sun Devils.
The game at venerable Pauley Pavilion will air at 2 p.m. on KSAZ, Channel 34 (radio is KFNX-1100). Should be a close one, and if UCLA coach Ben Howland has his way, it will be in the 60s or low 70s.
The last-place Devils play resurgent USC tomorrow afternoon at 5:30, also on Channel 34. If you’re on the road, KTAR620 also will air the game on the radio.
