There’s been a rumor floating around the sports world that Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Donovan McNabb could be coming to the Arizona Cardinals to take the spot of the now-retired Kurt Warner, but it’s time to put those rumors to bed, Cardinals General Manager Rod Graves says today.
The McNabb/Cardinals rumor has been swirling since even before Warner retired but picked up steam again recently when Eagles Coach Andy Reid announced at an owners’ meeting that Philly was listening to trade offers for McNabb.
In an e-mail posted on the Cardinals’ blog today, Graves says the Cards have “no interest” in McNabb.
McNabb, who lives in Chandler, is in the twilight of his career but indicated that he wants to end his career with a team that’s a contender.

Given the location of McNabb’s home and the fact that the Cards have been to the playoffs in each of the last two years, the move sort of made sense a few months ago.
Now, however, the Cards have made it clear that Heisman Trophy winner Matt Leinart will be the starter, and the team just signed former Cleveland Browns starter Derek Anderson to a $7.25 million contract to back him up.
So picking up an aging quarterback at the end of his career probably isn’t the best move but, hey, it worked out pretty well for the Cards in the past.
