The Arizona Department of Public Safety is warning of “stepped-up DUI enforcement” around metro Phoenix metro on Super Bowl Sunday.

“The Super Bowl DUI Saturation Operation will be highly visible and staffed by additional DPS Highway Patrol Officers along with those officers who are normally scheduled for duty,” according to one DPS sergeant’s statement.

Here’s what DPS released today:

Thanks to special funding from the Arizona Governor’s Office of Highway Safety (GOHS), the Arizona Department of Public Safety (DPS) will be stepping-up its DUI enforcement efforts this Super Bowl Sunday.

Beginning at 6 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 2, and continuing through the morning of Monday, Feb. 3, DPS will have a large contingent of additional officers participating in DUI saturation patrols on freeways throughout the Phoenix area.

DPS anticipates the additional patrol officers will be a visible deterrent to those motorists who might otherwise drive while impaired.

DPS also will have additional resources in place to assist with the processing of those motorists who are arrested for suspicion of DUI.

The additional resources and personnel greatly increase the efficiency with which a motorist arrested for suspicion of DUI can be investigated, processed and booked into jail. This results in officers being able to return to patrol duty much faster after making an arrest . . .

In support of the operation, a DUI Command Post will be set up at DPS headquarters located at 2102 West Encanto Boulevard in Phoenix.
