As you may have heard, the son of Dave Hendershott, the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office’s shamed former chief deputy, was stopped over the weekend for his second (alleged) DUI in two weeks.
The DUI stop was made about 10 a.m. Sunday.
Jeffrey Hendershott, 29, is yet to be charged — charging, Phoenix Sergeant Trent
Crump says, will occur only after lab analysis of the evidence.
Again, this is the younger Hendershott’s second DUI stop in two weeks. Not to mention, one witness described his condition at the time of the stop as “completely out of it. He was looking straight up at the ceiling and he was like rocking back and forth on his steering wheel.”

New Times reader Mikey1969 offers the following critique of how Hendershott’s case is being handled:
Really? The guy has a hit and run DUI two weeks ago, and they pull over for another and release him before charging him???????
You have GOT to be kidding me. For one, I have N-E-V-E-R heard of
someone not being booked for a DUI, Hell, When I got my DUI back in ’94,
they took me in to the police station, booked me and ran the
breathalyzer at the same time. I would imagine it’s the same with blood.
To start with, you need correctly trained to people to draw the blood,
and I am going to go out on a limb here and guess that they don’t do
this in the field. They either have officers trained in phlebotomy at
the station, or they take you in, call someone who is trained, and keep
you in a holding cell while waiting.This stinks of total bullshit back-scratching to me, no matter the excuse. Wish I had a powerful daddy when I got my 2 DUI’s…

those, BTW. The first one, I didn’t even know I was in my car to begin
with. My friends should never have let me leave the house, I was in
total blackout. The second one, I was at exactly the legal limit, but
passed every test, so they called in a Supervisor to administer more
tests. Eventually, I didn’t pass, I’m sure if I had, they would have
called in someone even higher. This doesn’t excuse them at all, I just
don’t ant people to think that I am some kind of serial DUI hypocrite.
Also, they were 6 years apart, and the last one was 17 years ago.
